An investigation is under way after reports three people were shot at by a man on a bike, police said.

The shooting was reported to have taken place on Thames Street in Toxteth, Liverpool, at about 16:00 GMT on Friday.

All those said to have been involved left the area following the incident, Merseyside Police said.

Det Ch Insp Andy McCourt said no evidence of a gun being discharged and no shells or bullets had been recovered at this stage, despite extensive enquiries including CCTV, witness and forensic enquiries being carried out.

He added that "nobody has come forward or presented themselves at hospital with gunshot injuries".

Det Ch Insp McCourt said the investigation would continue "to establish the facts" and identify those involved, as "this incident has clearly caused upset and concern for the local community".

He appealed to anyone who was in the area at the time "who saw or heard anything" to contact police.

"Gun crime remains a priority for Merseyside Police, and we would continue to ask the community to support us in our enquiries," he said.
