A council fighting an unauthorised traveller development close to a nuclear weapons site has been granted a High Court injunction to stop further work.

West Berkshire Council was granted the order on Friday, which restricts further development and more people living on the site south of Reading Road, close to the Atomic Weapons Establishment's (AWE) Aldermaston campus.

The authority said it took action to "protect the local environment, prevent unauthorised works and ensure compliance with national planning legislation."

The case will return to the High Court on 12 January 2026, when the injunction will be reviewed.

Heather Codling, the council's deputy leader, said: "We are committed to taking proportionate but firm action where planning control is being breached.

"Securing this injunction ensures that no further unauthorised development can lawfully take place while the matter is before the court."
