The experimental speed limit is to apply to about a third of Penkhull's roads, the city council says

An "experimental" 20mph (32.1kph) zone is to be introduced on about a third of routes in part of Stoke-on-Trent.

The speed limit reduction in Penkhull follows concerns from residents in the area as well as politicians, a city council spokesperson said.

The Experimental Traffic Regulation Order aims to reduce crashes while improving road safety and air quality.

The change will come into effect on Monday and run for six months, during which time the council will look at what effect it has before deciding whether it should continue.

Resident, business and driver feedback would influence any long-term decision, the spokesperson said.

They plan to write to affected households with details on how to submit comments up to a deadline of 9 August.
