Man sentenced after car crashes through pub wall

A man who crashed a car through the side of a Kent pub after he had been drinking has been sentenced.

Howard Sargent, 52, of Coat Drive in Romney Marsh, pleaded guilty to drink driving after crashing into The Pilot Inn, in Dungeness, on 10 August.

He was given a 24-month community order and a ban from driving for 28 months at Folkestone Magistrates' Court on Monday.

His solicitor, Jon Service, said Sargent was "apologetic for his actions".

The Pilot Inn remained partially closed for 10 days before fully reopening in time for August Bank Holiday.

Its owner, Niko Miaoulis, said at the time: "A huge thank you to all of our staff, customers, friends, family, that have helped, even just through good wishes in the past couple of weeks.

"It's totally amazing."
