College recruits staff as student numbers expand

A college previously rated as "requires improvement" has put students wanting to join on a waiting list and is looking to recruit more lecturers.

Hull College received a multi-million pound government bailout, closed its Harrogate and Goole campuses and cut teaching jobs amid financial problems.

In its last inspection education watchdog Ofsted rated the college as "good" overall.

Principal Debra Gray described the turnaround as a "real success story for the college and the city".

“We’ve had very significant reputational recovery for the college over the last two-and-a-half years, and with that reputational recovery has come growth," she said.

“There have been increased volumes of students, including adults, coming through and we’ve brought on new curriculum areas, such as Esports."

The college said that student recruitment had exceeded its target by 20% and more than 200 were on a waiting list.

It is now looking to hire 18 new teachers.
