Man, 27, dies after incident at industrial park

A man who was seriously injured in an industrial incident at a business park at the Port of Liverpool on Merseyside died earlier, police have said.

He has been named by Merseyside Police as 27-year-old Liverpool John Moores University student Yasen Sharif, who was taken to hospital in a critical condition on Wednesday at a the site on Primrose Business Park, Rimrose Road, Bootle.

In a statement his family said they are "devastated and we are committed to seeking justice to ensure this does not happen again".

A police investigation into the incident is underway alongside the Heath and Safety Executive.

A post mortem is due to take place on Monday, the force said.

In their statement, Yasen's family said it was with "profound sadness and unimaginable grief that we announce the passing of Yasen Sharif at the age of just 27 years".

His death was a "tragedy, and the circumstances surrounding how he passed are deeply heart-breaking", they added.

They described him as a "beloved son, husband, brother and friend", who was a computer science graduate studying for a master's degree at Liverpool John Moores University.

"He was passionate, driven, and full of promise. He brought light, warmth, and happiness everywhere he went. Anyone who had the privilege of knowing Yasen, or crossing paths with him, will remember his kindness, his spirit and the joy he gave so freely to others.

"He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him."
