Plans to bring a former landmark hotel back into use have been bolstered with a funding deal between Bradford Council and the property owner.

The local authority has signed off a grant from the Keighley Towns Fund to convert the Victoria Hotel in Cavendish Street.

The funding will contribute towards creating three commercial units in the 19th Century building as well as ten one- and two-bedroom apartments on the first and second floors.

Plans, which were approved last year, show the entrance to two of the commercial units and to the apartments will front onto Cavendish Street, with the entrance to the third commercial unit being on East Parade.

Alex Ross-Shaw, portfolio holder for regeneration, transport and planning, said: "This is an important historic building in a prime location in the centre of Keighley and we know it's been very frustrating seeing such a key heritage building in the town centre unused and in poor condition.

"It will be great to see this local landmark in good use again, and is part of ongoing regeneration work which is already making a big difference to the town and local area."
