A former office block is set to be repurposed into student accommodation.

The building on Borough Road, in Middlesbrough, has seen a change of use proposal agreed which would allow the addition of a three storey extension to house up to 30 students.

Rooms in the building near Melrose Street would be studios with communal living spaces, while two parking areas and a "grassed open space" would be created outside.

The scheme was originally approved by the Middlesbrough Development Corporation (MDC) in August but various further conditions had to be met before it was given the full go-ahead.

However, some further conditions would still need to be met before the new student accommodation could be occupied, the Local Democracy Reporting Service said.

Details regarding "matching materials" for the proposed building extensions as well as information about the replacement windows were both deemed satisfactory by MDC.

Planning officers said, subject to the conditions, the extensions would preserve the "significance" of the locally listed building as well as protecting the amenity of neighbouring properties.

It was also deemed the development would not have an "unacceptable" impact on highway safety.
