Police were shocked to find a chicken coop in the middle of a dual carriageway.

Officers do not suspect fowl play after coming across the wooden structure on the A414, near St Albans in Hertfordshire, overnight.

In a social media post, the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Road Policing Unit said the coop "appeared to have fallen off the back of a vehicle" but no-one had collided with it.

Fortunately there was no sign of any chickens crossing the road to access their home.
