Man and woman extradited from Malta

A 27-year-old man and a 58-year-old woman have been extradited to Northern Ireland from Malta to stand trial on a number of offences.

They were arrested in Malta in September and arrived in Northern Ireland on Saturday.

The man is charged with offences including rape, while the woman is charged with a number of offences including child cruelty.

The offences occurred in Enniskillen between February 2020 and June 2021. Both suspects are to appear before Enniskillen Magistrates' Court on Monday.

The man is wanted to stand trial for two offences of rape, and six offences of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

The woman is wanted for three offences of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and three offences of child cruelty.

They were both extradited by the Police Service of Northern Ireland's (PSNI) International Policing Unit.

Sgt Davey, from the unit, said: "This double extradition from Malta demonstrates our commitment to tracking down those wanted for crimes here in Northern Ireland.

"In this case we worked closely with the UK's Joint International Crime Centre and authorities in Malta to arrest and extradite these suspects – a first for the Police Service of Northern Ireland."
