Bell turret back in place on guildhall
South Kesteven District CouncilA Victorian bell turret is back in place at the Guildhall in Grantham, Lincolnshire, following refurbishment work.
It was removed in July 2025 after "unexpected decay" was found on the wooden frame, South Kesteven District Council said.
Further work was carried out on the roof and the clock tower of the Grade II listed building in St Peter's Hill.
Council cabinet member Richard Cleaver said the building was now "gleaming and fit for the future".
South Kesteven District CouncilThe bell in the turret at the front of the building is ornamental.
A separate chiming bell, housed within the larger clock tower, was commissioned in 1937, the year of King George VI's coronation.
The council said it would chime every hour between 08:00 and 18:00 after an electronic timing mechanism was installed.
South Kesteven District Council"It is a delight to hear the hours ringing out, as they have done for decades," Cleaver said.
"I'm particularly pleased that the clock faces have been thoroughly renovated and are now illuminated at night."
The work has also included the redecoration of the tower and the front windows of the building, which had been hidden by scaffolding.
