A man has appeared in court charged with arson following a fire which engulfed cars and fuel pumps at a petrol station.

The blaze at the BP Petrol Station on Broom Way, Lee-on-the-Solent, Hampshire, on 4 December caused people on the forecourt to flee. A dog was also found dead at the scene.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary said Tyson Charlie Nevin, 51, from Fareham, was charged with arson with intent to endanger life, threatening a person with a bladed article and causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal.

He appeared before magistrates in Portsmouth earlier and was remanded in custody to appear at the city's crown court on 2 March.
