Singing Experience
Sings with the Irish Guard Singers

My husband Don first went to Wembley with his dad in 1958 – aged 14 – for the Rugby League Challenge Cup. He has told me on many occasions the effect the beautiful hymn Abide With Me had on him and his dad – he still gets a lump in his throat to this day.

I know he would be proud to sing at Wembley – what an amazing feat that would be!

Don sings with the Irish Guard and has done for 15 years. He has had three strokes, the last one in 2012 affected his speech, which has now greatly improved, but will never be perfect. Strangely, it doesn’t affect his singing – when I asked the speech therapist about this, she told me that singing comes from a different part of the brain.

I am extremely proud of the way Don has coped with lots of obstacles and I know he would be equally as proud to sing at Wembley – what an amazing feat that would be!

Don is a very keen fan of Widnes RLFC and has been to Wembley on many occasions over the years, no matter which teams are playing and he greatly admires Lizzie Jones who sang at Wembley last year.
