I would like to nominate my husband as he has supported our local Rugby League team, Workington Town, since his dad took him and sat him on the dugout roof with a bottle of milk at the age of 18 months.

David has been the first with his pitchfork and wellington boots to help clear water off the pitch.

This then led on to him being a junior supporter, where he followed Workington Town to all the Rugby League grounds wearing the Town colours with pride, which he has continued to do to the present day.

When Town have requested volunteers due to bad weather, David has been the first with his pitchfork and wellington boots to help clear water off the pitch.

Once in the 1970s, he also helped to bail straw from the pitch, which had been put on to prevent frost. This was to ensure a game being televised by the BBC against St. Helens went ahead.

David has played amateur Rugby League since the age of nine and had numerous serious injuries, which resulted in him having to finish playing the game he loves at the age of 36. However, he did get selected for England Touch Rugby for the over-35s and played in the Touch World Cup in Australia, which he was immensely proud to take part in and sing the national anthem for his country.

For him to be able to sing Abide With Me – a song that means so much to Rugby League and its supporters - at Wembley would be an amazing and proud experience for David.
