I am a lifetime supporter of Oldham, having seen my first match at Watersheddings, aged five, and have watched them regularly ever since. Now aged 50 and living in Bangor, I continue to watch the team, driving many miles on the process, most recently to the Summer Bash in Blackpool this year.
I have worked voluntarily for the club, helping to paint the stadium, clear snow from the pitch and selling lottery tickets.
Over the years I have worked voluntarily for the club, helping to paint Watersheddings and Whitebank Stadium, helping to clear snow from the pitch and raising money by selling lottery tickets. My dream is to see Oldham at Wembley, something they have never achieved.
In 2015, I wrote a book “From Watersheddings to Whitebank” – published by London League Publications Ltd – about my love of Oldham and in the book’s prologue I wrote of my dream – and I quote: “The community singing was a joy and when Abide With Me was sung, there was not a dry eye in the Oldham end of the ground.”
The hymn Abide With Me - and its significance to the Challenge Cup final day - is very special. Last year, Lizzie Jones brought a tear to the eye by singing so beautifully. Given the opportunity to be part of this choir, singing my favourite hymn on my favourite sport’s most prestigious occasion, it would mean the world to me – perhaps second only to seeing an Oldham captain lift the famous cup one day!
