My late granddad, Albert, took my mum to Rugby League games from being a young girl. Albert’s family were all from Aspull so his chosen team were Wigan Warriors and mum continued to support Wigan throughout her life.

Cheerleading for Wigan gave me the best years of my life to date.

Ten years ago, I’d just started Winstanley College when I saw a poster advertising cheerleading auditions for a local Rugby League team. I didn’t know many people in the area and was interested in becoming involved with new activities. I’d been a cheerleader for my high school and thought this would be an opportunity to get involved in the community spirit and hopefully make some new friends.

Much to my surprise, life then revolved around the Rugby with practices, matches and promotion events. I went on to spend five seasons cheerleading for Wigan – mum would come to every game with my sister to watch me perform and support her beloved team.

Cheerleading for Wigan gave me the best years of my life to date; I would look forward to games at the end of the week and representing the team at weekend events. I made lifelong friends with other cheerleaders, who have encouraged me to apply for this amazing opportunity.

Landing my dream job in Disneyland, whilst being a cheerleader, meant leaving Wigan Warriors behind and moving to France. Two years later, on returning to England, I met my partner Sam, who is a lifelong Wigan fan. Sam and I now attend matches with our families. To perform in the Challenge Cup fans choir would be incredible – I have so much to thank Wigan Warriors and Rugby League for. I would love to give something back, not just for me, but all the supporters in my life.
