St Brelade volunteers help clear roads after Storm Ciarán

About 100 volunteers have started clearing up a Jersey parish after Storm Ciarán.

Islanders are still experiencing disruption to roads and businesses after the storm hit Jersey last week.

On Sunday, volunteers helped clear pavements and roads in St Brelade with shovels and brooms.

Cirsty de Gruchy Moseley, co-ordinator of the clean up, said volunteers wanted to help return the island to how it was before the storm.

She said: "It's a tiny, tiny sacrifice in comparison to what many families have experienced with this storm, so it's not much, but it's something."

She said it was "amazing to see the community spirit".

During the work, the Parish of St Brelade provided "essential safety gear and equipment" to volunteers.

Volunteer Catriona McAllister said the focus was to clear the roads and drains of debris, and more would need to be done.

She said: "I think this volunteer clear up is going to go on for several weeks.

"We are all working as little squads all throughout the areas and will be for several weeks I reckon."
