Nominations open for Isle of Man's top cultural award

People are being invited to nominate those who have "achieved something incredible for Manx culture" for a prestigious award.

The Reih Bleeaney Vanannan (RBV), named after the seagod Manannan, is awarded to those who make a significant contribution to island life.

Musicians, teachers and Manx Gaelic speakers are among those to have been awarded the honour in previous years.

Nominations close on 1 December, with the winner announced in early 2024.

Culture Vannin director Breesha Maddrell said the award was the Isle of Man's own "January honours".

The RBV was there to recognise those who have made significant achievements for Manx culture or been involved in it for many years, she added.

Winners of the award are given a bespoke trophy featuring Manannan and a specially-designed medal, along with a donation to go to a cultural cause of their choice.

Nominations are reviewed by a panel of judges from a group of Manx cultural organisations, with the winner expected to be announced in January.

Fiona McArdle was awarded the RBV in 2023 for her efforts teaching and promoting the Manx language, as well as her contributions in Manx singing and dancing.
