Watch EU-UK ambassador fire the Noonday Gun

The EU's ambassador in the UK fired the Noonday Gun at Castle Cornet during a visit to Guernsey.

Pedro Serrano was visiting the island to discuss how the Channel Islands will be impacted by the "reset deal" between the UK and EU.

The deal covers issues including fishing, trade, defence, energy and strengthening ties in a number of policy areas that are still being negotiated.

Mr Serrano also heard from leaders of both Guernsey and Jersey about how the relationship between The Channel Islands and EU currently works.

Finance was one of the key areas discussed during the visit.

Mr Serrano said: "Finance is very much at the heart of Guernsey.

"It's also a very important part of the City of London and what the European Union is doing in order to develop an investment and a savings union.

"It was very timely to exchange views on how we're all facing the challenges that the world and the global economy is confronted with."

"Financial security is very important to all of us, fighting money laundering, fighting the possible use of finance to support terrorism and ensuring that our regulations are in line with the international standards."

Mr Serrano said there were many opportunities for the islands to continue developing the relationship with the EU.

"So it's good to exchange with both Guernsey and Jersey on these issues and see how they themselves see their relationship both with the United Kingdom and with the European Union.

"we have a common history and at times as the ones we're living it is important that we build on that common history to strengthen links."
