College supports young people get into farming
Supporting young people into farming is crucial to help sustain the industry and the country, according to the North East's largest land-based college.
Houghall Campus is part of East Durham College and offers agricultural education to 750 students.
"If I wasn't farming I don't know what else I would do, being out every day looking after things, it gives you a purpose," said student Katie Wall.
According to data from the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (Defra), 40% of agricultural workers are over 65, and there is a clear demand for young workers.
