New digital signalling system tested on rail line

Footage of new digital signals carried out to keep trains safe on the East Coast mainline can be seen for the first time

The work is par of Network Rail's £1.4bn East Coast Digital Programme which aims to create greener, safer and more reliable journeys for passengers

The video shows train drivers testing the new digital signalling system on a stretch of the East Coast Main Line between Welwyn and Hitchin in Hertfordshire.

There will be no trains on large stretches of the East Coast Main Line out of King's Cross station in London on Sunday, with limited rail replacement services in operation.
