Dark Christmas comedy born in Carlisle pub

A black comedy set in Cumbria about a stolen Christmas turkey has qualified for a Bafta.

Funded by the British Film Institute (BFI), Meat Raffle is set during a pub's turkey draw and follows a closeted dad who is terrified that he has turned his son gay.

Writer-director Stuart Armstrong, 28, managed to get Sir Ian McKellen, who has family ties to Carlisle, to watch it.

“Meat Raffle is full of surprises and the excellent cast are beautifully photographed by Stuart Armstrong," said Sir McKellen.

Video produced by Ed Hanson and Toby Bewley.
