Frozen in time: The once-glamorous Iranian embassy in the US sits empty
Once host to glitzy parties with celebrities, champagne, and caviar, the Iranian Embassy in Washington DC has remained closed and boarded up since the 1979 Iranian Revolution and hostage crisis.
The US embassy in Iran was seized by Iranian militias for 444 days during the hostage crisis, severing diplomatic ties between the two nations.
More than 40 years later, the BBC's Helena Humphrey explains what would need to happen for diplomatic relations to thaw enough for the US and Iran to reopen embassies.
