Crews contain wildfire at nature reserve
Firefighters were called to a nature reserve after a large area of brash and gorse went up in flames.
Eight appliances were sent to Stiperstones National Nature Reserve in Shropshire where the wildfire affected an area of about 15,000 sq m (161,458 sq ft).
Crews from Bishops Castle, Church Stretton, Minsterley and Shrewsbury arrived at the scene at about 15:00 GMT on Monday, Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service said.
Beaters and fogging units were used to contain the blaze and bring it under control, with a drone sent up to monitor the scene.
The nature reserve, south-west of Shrewsbury, is a protected ridge popular with hikers and has panoramic views across the county and into Wales.
On Facebook, Tweedale Fire Station said access to the location was challenging, so crews used a drone to identify remaining hotspots and areas of active fire.
"The drone's live video feed was also streamed in real time, allowing teams both on scene and elsewhere to support decision-making and maintain situational awareness throughout the incident," it said, assessing officers' work as "a strong team effort and a great use of modern technology to support frontline operations".
