Pedestrians killed in Coatbridge and Rutherglen accidents

Two people have died after being hit by cars in separate accidents in Lanarkshire on Thursday.

A 55-year-old woman was struck by a car on Croftfoot Road, near Rutherglen, South Lanarkshire, at about 18:35. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Less than an hour later, at about 19:20, a 72-year-old man was hit by a car on Whifflet Street in Coatbridge, North Lanarkshire.

He was also pronounced dead at the scene.

Sgt John Tait, from Motherwell road policing, said: "Sadly two fatal road crashes have occurred in the region in a short space of time."

Police are appealing for anyone with information or anyone that has dashcam footage to contact them.
