Power restored to Easington Lane properties after cable fault

About 180 homes in Tyne and Wear were left without electricity following a power cut in part of Sunderland.

Outages affecting Easington Lane village were reported at about 14:00 GMT with power restored to all properties by 18:30, Northern Powergrid said.

It had initially been estimated as many as 2,500 properties could have been affected by the fault.

However, engineers established a much smaller number were "off supply".
