The Snog: Popular Sheffield mural set to be repainted

A popular mural which disappeared from the wall of a Sheffield pub will be repainted, the artist has promised.

Pete McKee's The Snog had adorned a side wall of Fagan's pub on Broad Lane but was recently removed during work on the building.

The mural, which depicted elderly couple Frank and Joy embraced in a kiss, had been there since 2013.

The artist said: "Frank and Joy will be back snogging outside Fagan's very soon and for many more years to come."

The news of the mural's disappearance was first reported in the Sheffield Star on 30 April, following reports from concerned residents.

Tourism firm Welcome to Sheffield reassured locals that McKee's new mural would be "super fresh but exactly the same".

In a social media post on Wednesday, it said: "Don't panic!

"Yes, it's a shock to see Fagan's Sheffield so naked without Pete McKee's much-loved mural 'The Snog' on the side, but it will be completely repainted."

The Sheffield-based artist is known for his colourful depictions of everyday life in South Yorkshire.

Since it was first painted, The Snog became a popular spot for couples and newlyweds to pose for a photograph.
