Artist Pete McKee plea for 25 originals in exhibition

Sheffield artist Pete McKee has asked the public to help find 25 of his past original paintings for a new exhibition.

The Boy with a Leg Named Brian will open at Sheffield's Weston Park Museum.

The artist said he was "really excited" but needs help locating some of the original works he wanted to feature.

Made up of new and past paintings, the exhibition will be an "autobiographical journey through his childhood in 1970's Sheffield", Sheffield Museums said.

Pete McKee is famous for his colourful depictions of everyday life in South Yorkshire.

"I am really excited about this exhibition," he said.

"My dad used to take me to Weston Park Museum when I was a child so to be able to have a big show here is really an honour."

Finding the 25 paintings would make the exhibition "extra special", he added.

Sheffield Museums said the originals were easily identifiable as they are painted on board and are either unframed or in a wooden frame, and only the original artworks - not prints - were needed.

People should not get in touch about any paintings not listed on the website, Sheffield Museums said.

In January, Mr McKee worked with Oasis songwriter Noel Gallagher when the singer wanted to to use the title of a book of the artist's paintings, Council Skies, as the name of his new album.

"Pete McKee: The Boy with a Leg Named Brian" will open at Sheffield's Weston Park Museum in November.
