Maddy Cusack: Cause of Sheffield United player's death not yet confirmed - inquest
Getty ImagesThe cause of Sheffield United player Maddy Cusack's death has not yet been established, an inquest has heard.
The 27-year-old midfielder, who was the Blades' longest-serving female player, died at her home in Horsley, Derbyshire, on 20 September.
Derbyshire Police has said it was not treating her death as suspicious.
An inquest into Ms Cusack's death was opened and adjourned in a brief hearing which took place at Derby Coroner's Court on Wednesday.
Assistant coroner Louise Pinder said: "We are awaiting a police file and the medical cause of death.
"Therefore, I am adjourning the inquest for six weeks for further review."
Ms Cusack was formally identified by her father David after her death at her home on Lady Lea Road, the inquest heard.
Getty ImagesLast season, Ms Cusack became the first player to reach 100 appearances for Sheffield United's women's team, which she joined from Leicester City in 2019.
She also worked for Sheffield United's commercial department as a marketing executive.
The club's women's and men's teams both paid tribute to the player at matches after she died.
Captain Sophie Barker, who lived with Ms Cusack, wrote a heartfelt tribute in the Women's Championship team's matchday programme in which she said her close friend would "never be replaced".
The club's chief executive Stephen Bettis said Ms Cusack's death was "heartbreaking news for everyone at Bramall Lane".
