A two-week-old baby died of a suspected fracture to the skull, a court heard.

Brendon Staddon was born prematurely at 33 weeks on 20 February and died at Yeovil District Hospital on 5 March.

Daniel Gunter, 25, and Sophie Staddon, 20, both of no fixed address, are charged with his murder and causing or allowing the death of a child.

A hearing was held at Bristol Crown Court earlier, for which Ms Staddon and Mr Gunter did not appear in person. They are next due to appear on 5 April.

A full post mortem is being carried out later, Avon and Somerset Police said.
