Volunteers needed to survey Shropshire rivers
BBCThe Freshwater Biological Association is seeking volunteers to help monitor a number of small rivers and brooks.
The organisation hopes participants will log the condition of watercourses around the Long Mynd, Stiperstones and Stretton Hills in Shropshire.
It offers free training and adds that volunteers only need waterproof clothing and a pair of boots.
The project includes monitoring of the River Onny, the Habberley Brook and Criftins Brook.
Environmental consultant Dan Gordon-Lee, the training provider, said volunteers would be examining river flow, checking for artificial modifications, and looking for evidence of pollution, sewage and non-native species.
The surveys would help direct future conservation work, he said.
"Absolutely no experience is necessary," he explained, adding all work would be done from the river bank.
