A man has appeared in court charged with the murder of a shopkeeper who was stabbed to death at a newsagents.

Ravi Katharkamar, 54, was attacked while opening Marsh Food and Wine in Pinner, north-west London, on 24 March.

Police said a post-mortem confirmed Mr Katharkamar's cause of death was a stab wound to the chest.

Alex Gunn, 31, of no fixed address, has been charged with murder, robbery, possession of a bladed article, and theft of a motor vehicle.

The chairwoman of the bench at Willesden Magistrates' Court, Sue Mendelbaum, sent the case to the Old Bailey and Mr Gunn was remanded in custody.

Mr Gunn is next due in court on Tuesday.

A 44-year-old man arrested in connection with the case has been released under investigation.
