A former amusement park is to become a luxury caravan sales site on Skegness seafront.

The former Fun City arcade on North Parade has been empty for more than a decade and the council has now approved the holiday home plan for the site.

Previous schemes to build luxury apartments or a hotel on the land failed to progress.

Councillor Dick Edginton said the park had become "unsightly" and needed to be brought back into commercial use.

Skegness Town Council had objected to the plans and said the scheme was "not appropriate for a foreshore location and is out of character and not in keeping with the area," according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

But East Lindsey District Council also received 27 letters of support for the application from residents and neighbours.

Andrew Clover, representing the applicant David Scott, told a council meeting the site had become "an eyesore".

He said: "We've seen activity being detrimental to the character and economic well-being of the area."

Councillor Danny Brookes said: "This proposal not only offers economic benefits, but also contributes positively to our community wellbeing in the tourism industry."
