Fire in disused Leicester church annexe believed to be arson

A fire which destroyed a building next to a disused Victorian church is believed to have been started deliberately, police say.

Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service said six fire crews were sent to the burning property, in St Saviour's Road, Leicester, at 21:00 BST on Saturday.

The flames were extinguished, but the roof had collapsed, and the building will now be demolished.

Leicestershire Police say no arrests have been made and inquiries continue.

The fire service said: "Reinspection was further completed by crews for hot spots and damping down.

"The building was previously damaged by a fire prior to this incident, and we can confirm that the remainder of the building will be demolished because of this incident."

Police said in a statement: "We can confirm the fire is believed to have been started deliberately.

"Inquiries are continuing, but no arrests have been made. We would urge anyone with information to contact police."
