Kevin Sinfield unveils Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon finisher's medal

Rugby league star Kevin Sinfield has unveiled the finisher's medal for the Leeds marathon named in honour of his friend and sporting legend Rob Burrow.

Inspired by the former Leeds Rhinos player who has motor neurone disease (MND), the event returns for the second time on 12 May.

Revealing the medal, Burrow's former captain Sinfield said he was looking forward to a great day.

Last year's Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon raised more than £5m for charities.

The 2023 event led to emotional scenes when Sinfield stopped short of the finish line to carry his friend over.

The pair crossed the finish line together after Sinfield pushed his former teammate around the course in a specially-adapted wheelchair.

More than 12,000 people took part in the 26.2-mile (42.2km) run, including Burrow's wife Lindsey.

Speaking to BBC Radio Leeds last month, Burrow said last year's run was "a day I will never forget".

"I was so fortunate to take part in last year's event alongside my good friend Kevin," he said.

"We would love you to get involved this year, whether that's as a runner or a volunteer.

Sinfield said: "I can't wait to see everyone here on 12 May to make it a great experience again."
