Ashurst: Trains unable to stop at station due to damaged footbridge

Some trains are unable to stop at a station in Kent due to "urgent" repairs to a damaged passenger bridge.

Southern said trains towards London from Uckfield would not call at Ashurst until at least 5 February.

The rail operator said an engineering unit struck the bridge at the station during planned works on the Uckfield route.

It said: "Following an inspection by Network Rail, it has been deemed unsafe and not available for passenger use."

Services towards Uckfield can still stop at the station, it added.

Passengers for London have been advised to use Uckfield services and double back, or use nearby Eridge or Cowden stations.

Southern said any passengers travelling from Uckfield or Eridge to Ashurst need to "speak to station staff or use a platform emergency help point" for assistance.

It has urged travellers to allow extra time to complete their journeys.
