The stretch of road near Painswick will remain closed until further notice for "safety reasons"

A stretch of a major road is to remain closed after a "void" appeared.

The A46 between Painswick and Pitchcombe, near Stroud, has been closed in both directions since 14 March, as emergency repair work takes place.

Drivers are being warned by Painswick Parish Council not to attempt to remove the cones and barriers as it is unsafe.

Diversions are in place for motorists travelling between Gloucester and Stroud.

The closure runs from the junction of the A4173 to Wragg Castle Lane.

An estimated date for the road to be reopened will be announced after 12 April, once the investigation work is completed.
