Firefighters have rescued a woman after she became trapped in her car during floods.

Emergency services were called to Deep Ford Lane near Sherborne, Dorset, at 20:23 BST on Saturday, to find the driver's vehicle stuck in fast-flowing water.

A technical rescue team from Weymouth and crews from Yeovil helped the woman safely out of her car.

The service said it had seen a rise in flood-related calls on Saturday.

Calls about flooding began increasing from 16:00 BST, Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service (DWFRS) said.

Most calls were from people whose properties were affected by flooding or cars stuck in water.

It follows warnings of adverse weather and heavy rainfall across the south coast.

Emergency services received a high number of calls from Chetnole, Sherborne, Beaminster, Nettlecombe, Corscombe and Chideock.

DWFRS advised people not to drive through standing water and to avoid walking through floodwater that is above knee-level in case of open manhole covers and other hazards.
