Torbay Council to work with partner on regeneration plans

Torbay councillors have voted for the authority to work with a partner to speed up regeneration plans.

Torbay Council has four separate pots of government money, worth more than £50m, the Local Democracy Reporting Service said.

However, it needs to spend a large portion of the funding by March.

Councillors voted to work with a "household name" partner to speed up building schemes.

The potential partner has not been named yet, but a report to the cabinet said it would offer more capability and flexibility than the council could manage on its own.

Torquay's focus will be on the town centre, with a mix of new homes and businesses in and around Union Square area off Union Street.

In Paignton, the emphasis will be town centre areas including Station Square and the Victoria Centre.

The funding is coming from the government's Future High Streets Fund, along with money from the Town Deal, Levelling Up and Town Money schemes.
