Two people have been seriously injured in a multi-vehicle crash which saw a lorry cross the central reservation and hit traffic on the A30 in Devon.

Emergency services were called to Cheriton Bishop at about 07:40 BST.

The crash involved three cars, a van, and the HGV, which was towing two trailers and a caravan, police said.

One car driver, a woman in her 30s, was taken to hospital with "multiple serious injuries". The male driver of the HGV sustained a serious leg injury.

The woman was taken to hospital in Plymouth, where she was described as in a "critical but stable condition".

The lorry crossed the reservation and went into oncoming traffic, Devon and Cornwall Police said.

Both carriageways have been shut and were "likely to remain shut for some time", officers added.
