A man has appeared in court charged with dangerous driving after a car ended up on its roof in a crash.

Firefighters rescued a woman and an 18-month-old child after the Vauxhall Corsa caught fire in the crash in Tamworth Road, Long Eaton, on Saturday afternoon.

Liam Swinfield, 24, of Marriott Avenue, Chilwell, entered no plea at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates' Court.

He was remanded in custody to appear at Derby Crown Court on 11 February.

The woman and a toddler rescued from the car were treated in hospital for minor injuries.

Magistrates were told Mr Swinfield was arrested by police in a nearby canal.

He has also been charged with failing to stop after an accident and driving without a licence, insurance or valid MOT certificate.
