Cornwall primary school shuts after second heating oil theft in one week
GoogleA primary school in Cornwall says it has been forced to shut after thieves stole its heating oil twice in a week.
External oil tanks have been siphoned at St Day and Carharrack Community School, near Redruth, on two occasions in the past two weekends, police said.
Head teacher Susannah Storey said she had closed the school because it had no heating.
She said the inside air temperature was less than about 12C (54F) but the school would reopen on Tuesday.
The value of fuel taken was £1,600, according to police.
A Cornwall Council spokesperson said staff and governors were "extremely disappointed that end of year celebrations, school performances and learning have been disrupted".
Police are investigating the crimes.
Parent Daniel Fog said he was "annoyed and very frustrated" he had had to "rush out of work" to collect his ten-year-old son.
