Dudley bus station to close for regeneration works

Dudley bus station is due to close for regeneration work to take place.

It will close on Sunday with services transferred to other stops within the town centre on Tower Street, Ednam Road and Priory Road.

The work forms part of a new £24m Dudley bus and tram interchange and also includes the wider regeneration of the town centre.

The interchange hub will eventually link bus services with the town's new Metro terminus.

Commuters are warned journey times for motorists and bus users may be increased due to new one-way systems and bus route diversions.

Dudley Metropolitan Borough Council said by 2026 the town will be a place which "serves the needs of its local population and which remains the strong focus for civic life, for town centre living, for shopping, tourism and heritage, leisure and education."

The Wednesbury to Brierley Hill Metro extension should see the tram arrive in Dudley later this year.

Andy Street, Mayor of the West Midlands,said: "This bus station closure means that we will soon be demolishing the old building and starting work on the new Dudley Interchange - linking up bus and tram services with a modern fit-for-purpose facility.

"Whether it is tracks being laid for the new Metro extension from Wednesbury to Brierley Hill, the new cross-city bus route under development or more cycle routes across the borough, we're making major transport investments in Dudley as we work hard to better connect local people and businesses to the wider West Midlands."
