A 16-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of sexual assault after an attack on a six-year-old girl.

West Midlands Police said the incident had happened at Rowheath Park, in Bournville, Birmingham, on Saturday.

The force said the girl had been out with her family at a playground when she was briefly lured into a nearby wooded area and assaulted.

The boy was arrested in Birmingham and is in police custody for questioning.

Officers want to talk to people who were in the park at about 12:00 BST that day.

And while the force said it was grateful the appeal for information had been shared on social media, it asked people not to speculate on what might have happened.

Det Insp Matt Stone said speculation was "unhelpful to our investigation and distressing for those involved".
