Woman and children rescued from Birmingham flat fire

A woman and three children were rescued from a severe blaze at a flat in Birmingham.

Fire crews were called to the flat above a shop on Curdale Road in Bartley Green at 01:18 GMT.

The woman and children were rescued by firefighters wearing breathing apparatus and taken to hospital.

Seven fire appliances were used to put the fire out. West Midlands Fire Service said investigations into the cause of the blaze were ongoing.
