An old fire station has been torn down after the land was sold to a developer.

Dee Road fire station in Tilehurst, Reading, closed in 2021 before being bought by Bellway Homes for £6.1m.

The company plans to build a mixed development of 54 homes on the site, including 31 houses and 23 flats.

The Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service said money from the sale was funding improvements to other stations, as well as a new training facility.

The project was approved at a planning committee meeting in May, with a legal agreement between Reading Borough Council and Bellway Homes being signed in September.

Dee Road served as the headquarters for the county's fire service until 2014.

Crews were relocated to Theale when it closed.
