Great Amwell 'hit and run': Horse fatally injured after main road crash
GoogleA horse was fatally injured in a hit and run crash on Saturday, police said.
Hertfordshire Police was called to the southbound carriageway of the A10 between Ware and Hoddesdon just before 01:00 GMT.
A small brown horse was found by a member of the public near the junction for Great Amwell with injuries that suggested it had been struck by a vehicle.
A vet said the horse had non-survivable injuries and it was put down.
PC Dean Watson said he believed the horse had been struck by a vehicle - possibly a white lorry - and the driver had failed to report the incident or stop at the scene.
"Despite speaking to local famers and stables, the owner of the horse, which was not micro-chipped, has not been located," he added.
