Biggleswade Library reopens with new community services

A library is reopening after work took place to transform it into a modern facility and community hub.

Biggleswade Library in Bedfordshire now includes a registrars office, a children's centre and assistance for people transitioning to online banking.

The council said upgrades were made to allow the building to function more efficiently and sustainably.

Simon Ford from Central Bedfordshire Council described the revamped library as "pivotal" for the community.

The independent councillor - also executive member for highways and waste - said: "We have made substantial investments in the renovation of the building, resulting in a state-of-the-art library that will offer excellent community services to our residents."

The library was due to open its doors on Tuesday with children's events planned for the October half-term week.

From 1 November, visitors will be able to use a registration service - such as for births and marriages - in the library every week between Wednesday and Thursday.

In addition to a larger children's library, Biggleswade Children's Centre will also begin offering services from November.

Those looking for support and guidance transitioning to online banking will be able to visit an advice centre run by Barclays Bank at the location.

Mr Ford hoped these new services would "be able to meet the needs of all and the library become a hub at the heart of the local community".
