The landmark tree at Sycamore Gap, beside Hadrian's Wall in Northumberland, was apparently cut down in the middle of the night. Northumberland National Park Authority officials believe the tree, known as Robin Hood's Tree, was "deliberately felled".

Nasa personnel were on hand to examine a capsule containing samples from the asteroid Bennu when it touched down in the Utah desert. Scientists hope that this material could contain hints as to how life on Earth began. The spacecraft, Osiris-Rex, has remained in space after releasing the capsule containing the samples.
