Police are appealing for witnesses after a 15-year-old girl was sexually assaulted on a train.

The incident happened on a train from Edinburgh Waverley to Aberdeen between 21:00 and 21:30 on Sunday 24 August.

British Transport Police said several people saw the teenager's distress and stepped in to help her, and a man was removed from the train at Inverkeithing.

The suspect was described as white, in his 40s or 50s, around 5ft10 with short dirty blond hair. He was wearing a pink shirt and beige shorts.

Officers would like to speak to the members of the public who intervened.
